A Detailed Look at the Builder Business Type

As a Builder, you either joined pawTree to make some side income by sharing the products that you love and the business opportunity, or you’ve moved from Seller to Builder as your confidence grew with each of your new income successes.

If you joined as a Builder, your entry-level income goal is typically $500 or more a month at first and grows to $1,000 or more a month.

What You Do

As a Builder, you will repeat a simple 3 step process over and over to find pet parents who need the solutions pawTree offers.

Step 1: Have Connecting Conversations.

Step 2: Guide Them to Solutions.

Step 3: Give An Invitation to Save Money or Make Money.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!

The more you do this, the more success you’ll have. These conversations may move quickly through the 3 steps or they may take time to build a relationship. This is why many conversations are needed.

For a full training on this 3-step process, go here.

As you find people who want to join you as a petPro, you’ll begin to do ONE ADDITIONAL STEP.

Step 4: Guide them on how to do the 3 steps.

Guiding is simply showing them the training available on the 3-step process and having regular/weekly check-in conversations with them to answer questions or guide them to additional training and resources.

As soon as they join you, find out if they want to be a Seller business type or a Builder business type. Use the training post here to help them understand the difference.

Then guide them using the training available in the petPro Blog or Fast Start courses in pTU.

PRO TIP: The best way to guide others is to model the 3 step process for growing a pawTree business.

Setting Income Goals*

It’s important to set income goals each month so you can establish some milestones required to reach that income level. These milestones give you markers to work towards throughout the month to stay on track to earn the income desired. Without an income goal, you’re likely to do a few things here and there to try and sell some products and invite new petPros but land on a random income for the month. This most often ends up translating to very little income and a lot of disappointment.

Let’s look at some income-producing scenarios to help you determine the actions and results required to reach your personal income goals.

Reaching your goals through sales is achieved in 2 ways:

1. By earning sales commissions:

  •  This income is from both New Customers and Recurring Customers.
    • New Customers - people you introduce pawTree products to who have never purchased them in the past
    • Recurring Customers - people who continue to purchase products after their initial purchase from you

2. By earning Product Pack bonuses and team commissions:

  • Product Pack bonuses are earned when a person you invite to become a petPro enrolls with one of our Product Pack options.
  • Team commissions come from a percentage of sales gathered by people you enroll on your Level 1 and Level 2.

Reaching Income Goals with SALES*

As noted above, this income is from both New Customers and Recurring Customers.

  • New Customers - people you introduce pawTree products to who have never purchased them in the past
  • Recurring Customers - people who continue to purchase products after their initial purchase from you. These sales occur in 2 ways.
    1. Single Orders: They occasionally come back to buy more of the same products or try new products.
    2. EZ Ship Orders: They sign up to receive an order on a recurring basis.

TIP: As you gather new customers, introduce them to the option of setting up their order on a recurring schedule of their choice. This will help them save on shipping costs and avoid running out of the products they need. They may be ready to set it up with their first order, or they may be ready after trying the products for the first time. In the case of the latter - a follow-up call is recommended to help guide them to this cost-saving solution.

If you’re a new builder, the majority of your initial income will come from sales. Your Team Building Income will come a little later.

Here’s an example to use for building your income strategy with sales:

  • To reach a $400 income goal from new customer sales, you’ll need to have $1,000 in NEW customer sales. Details on how this is paid here.
    • This equates to about 10 new customers a month with an average of $100 in sales. Statistically, customers new to pawTree spend $100 on average, especially when offered a new customer discount code. Tips for using this code to reach goals can be found here.

As a Builder, you’ll want to repeat this level of new customer gathering each month to build a strong returning customer base. As you grow your returning customer base, your sales income will grow incrementally.  You can find a detailed look at several growing income scenarios from returning sales here.

Reaching Income Goals with TEAM BUILDING*

  • Team building income starts with enrollment. When someone you invite to join you as a petPro chooses to enroll with a Product Pack, you will earn a bonus.
  • As your team grows, you will advance to new titles. This is when Team commissions begin.
    • As you invite people to join you as a petPro, this builds your team on your Level 1.
    • As people on your Level 1 decide to invite others, they will populate petPros on your Level 2.
    • Team commissions come from a percentage of sales gathered by people you enroll on your Level 1 and Level 2.
  • The % of sales on these 2 levels is based on the titles you advance to.
    • Titles are reached based on a combination of personal sales volumes, petPro count on your team, and sales volume from your team.
    • You can see the varied titles and commission tiers here.
    • You can get a full training on how the commission structure works here.

The Next Income Level

As you advance to the title of Sr. Director and Executive Director, you’ll gain confidence using the 3-step process for gathering new customers and petPros. As a result, your new sales will increase, your recurring sales will grow, and your team growth will increase each month. You're on your way to VP!

Often, when a Builder has advanced to VP and learned to consistently grow their business with sales and sponsoring, they are inspired to see their pawTree business as something more than a side gig income source and they begin to explore what it might look like to build at a different level. The Builder business type will then migrate to a VP Making Machine business type.

You can find details on the VP Making Machine business type here.
